Mary Spio: Rocket Scientist, Entrepreneur & Media Mastermind

Whilst flipping through the pages of the October 2009 issue of Wired Magazine, I came across the article “Alpha Geek: Rocket Scientist Takes On TV For Gamers.” Any mention of rocket science gets my immediate attention, but this article is perfect for me to bring to the attention of .51 readers!

Mary Spio was once an aerospace engineer at Boeing. She holds four patents, one of which allowed for the digital transfer of “Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones” to theaters when it was released. That technical innovation wasn’t enough to satisfy her. Spio started her own online dating company, One2One Living, and saw it become successful as well. (It’s now an online dating magazine with a current social networking environment.)

These days, Spio is president and one of the co-founders of Gen2Media, an “Internet-oriented video production and distribution company,” according to the Wired article. According to Gen2Media’s site, they’re providing a proprietary video publishing application. (Slick.) Spio is working on a project that crosses the voyeurism of reality shows like “America’s Got Talent” with the get-in-there-and-do-it-yourself of Xbox Rock Band players. Her experience and skill set are too lengthy to include here, so be sure to check out her bio. (This woman has some serious street cred!)

Care to see her in action? Here’s a brief video of her talking about the challenge of doing something other than what’s expected.
