Jane McGonigal: A Different Approach To Gaming
Here’s a big nod to Veronica Belmont who today pointed folks to Cryptozoo. A quick search of the site revealed that Cryptozoo is a “non-commercial, indie game…about inventing the future of physical activity, about making play and gaming a bigger part of how we take care of ourselves.”
What’s that mean? Check out the vids on the site which show folks traipsing through urban terrain - moving, jumping, twisting, making weird noises, and remembering how to play!
A quick peek at the About page revealed a familiar name: Jane McGonigal.
McGonigal has a fantastic and completely plausible view of gaming. I could wax ad nauseam about her work, but you should just check it out yourself:
- Check out her work with the Institute For The Future
- Visit her blog
- Read her bio on her AvantGame site
Her work will change the way you think about gaming!

Jane McGonigal is also interesting because of the way she talks about how playing games impacts thinking and the brain. The way she’s promoting this game is another example of her brilliance. She’s definitely one of the most fascinating women in tech.
