Intel Is Upgrading My Life

Recently, I received an invitation to join other technically-inclined women for a visit to Intel’s Santa Clara campus. In just a few days, we’ll attend the “Upgrade Your Life” event and discuss “mobility, performance, and women working in technology” with each other and some of Intel’s most accomplished engineers and executives.

Announced sessions include “Digital Divide: Eliminate Barriers for Girls through Access to Technology”, “Today’s PC/Laptop Use & Buying Habits”, and a “Women’s Network for Sustainable Future Panel” in addition to an anticipated show-and-tell of Intel hardware. We’ve yet to receive the official programming announcement, but it’s been hinted that we’ll meet Genevieve Bell, an Intel engineer who has reached the company pinnacle as an Intel Fellow.

Intel’s CIO Diane Bryant took the time to talk with me last week, and I’ll post the interview soon as part of an Intel-focused week here on DotFiveOne.

I’ll be in lofty company: Christina Tynan-Wood (”How To Be A Geek Goddess”), Mia Kim (Popgadget), Sarah Lane (congratulations on the new gig!), Veronica Belmont (Tekzilla) and Beth Bleckerman (TechMama) are all scheduled to attend as well. I’m excited to meet so many other technical women in one gathering.

While I’m sure we’ll discuss a number of topics during the event, I’m hoping to chat with folks at length about how we encourage more young women to choose technical fields, how we can spread the word about what women in tech are doing (a cause near and dear to me, obviously) and finally, what other folks think of the recent trend towards marketing tech specifically to women (case in point: Della).

It’s going to be a great week!
