Are You A Geeky Woman?

Now’s the time to share your geekiness with the world!

Drop me a line at ubergeeke@dotfiveone.com and tell me what you’re up to. Are you programming? Gaming? Building something cool? Watching a killer scifi flick? Rolling d20s? Modding your own system? Whatever you’re doing, it’s time to toot your own horn and share your pursuits with other geeky women!

Already posted about it on your own blog? Well, point me to it! I’ll be happy to point folks in your direction.

The more we talk to each other, the more ideas we’ll share, and that will just lead to all kinds of pandemonium - er, new projects for all of us.

And if you’ve got photos of your work, share those, too!

I’m running something online called PyCamp, which is turning into a series of experiments in Open Source and Python. It’s a learning playground of tools we hope to fit together to become a real framework one day, or maybe just a collection of handy tools. We’ll see how it evolves. It is invite-only, mostly for newbies, and all in Python.

    Hi ubergeeke!

I recently transcribed part of a high school math textbook into Nemeth code, the braille code for math and science notation. I had to do that for my job–the geeky part was that it was really fun. My math prowess includes making calculations on a Japanese-style abacus. Take that, slide rule! And given the right software (software the IT guys don’t even know exists), I can operate a computer with the screen turned off, which is a source of great pride.

Also, I brew my own beer. If I were geekier I’d know how to use the hydrometer to measure the specific gravity and thus the alcohol content. Instead, I just taste test. Maybe that’s not the sign of a geek so much as a lush. Hic!
