Live, From LinuxFest NW!

Here’s a short update on LinuxFest Northwest!

This is my first time to visit Bellingham, WA for LinuxFest NW. I picked a great time to make the trip. It’s the tenth anniversary, and so far, I’ve met a lot of great folks with geeky leanings of all kinds.

I’m representing the Portland State Aerospace Society, along with cohorts Sarah and Jamey Sharp. There aren’t many folks here demonstrating what they’re doing with Linux, though I suppose that could be a matter of opinion. There are a number of vendors here, and quite a few LUGs as well. The swag count is pretty high, and there are several distros represented here, from Fedora and Ubuntu to openSUSE and the lone booth for FreeBSD and PC-BSD. (I *really* need to load PC-BSD on a test box. Hmmmm, maybe I should build a network monitoring system with that, then load Munin on top of it, if that’s even possible.)

I haven’t been able to catch any of the sessions yet, but I’m hoping to see Allison Randal’s Parrot talk tomorrow. We’re presenting a talk on open source rockets in the morning, but “Maddog” Hall is scheduled for the same time slot. I hope we get one or two folks who want to listen to us babble about rockets!

More updates tomorrow, along with some pics. (Tonight is the big social, and since I forgot to take pics today, I’ll be sure to start this evening!)
