WomenInPhysics: Mars Lander And More
Only two scientific endeavors in recent memory have attracted phenomenal everyday attention: the Large Hadron Collider and NASA’s Phoenix missions to Mars. (Don’t believe me? Check out this tweeter’s follower count.)
For so many of us fated never to leave the earth’s surface (except for the occasional plane flight, which hardly counts), the Phoenix Mars Lander, with its unexpectedly extended mission and accomplishments, represents our best hope of seeing another world. It has captivated millions.
Over on PhysicsWorld.com, Jacqueline Hewett interviews the principal investigator of NASA’s Phoenix mission, Peter Smith.
This month’s posts on PhysicsWorld include a few others worth reading as well, fresh from the world of physics:
- Marie Freebody looks into plasmonics and ultra short (less than 1 ns) light pulses.
- Nadya Anscombe chats with optical frequency comb experts
For all the geeky physics women, enjoy!
