Linux Plumbers Conference: Familiar Faces In New Surroundings
I’m attending the Linux Plumbers Conference here in Portland, Oregon for the next few days, covering the event for Linux Pro Magazine. Today, there’s a pre-conference event just for students who are interested in open source development in general and kernel development in particular.
One of the event organizers is Sarah Sharp. Sarah was the first "Geek of the Week" here on dotFiveOne, so make sure to read that interview and learn more about her history and experiences.
The student microconference is well attended and about 20% of attendees are women. The topics are mostly tailored for new developers, which is great for students. Turns out some folks already have some experience with contributing to kernel development, but there are a few folks who are new to the community. Visit the student microconference website for more details on today’s events.
Over the next few days, I’ll post (often) about the conference events, both here on dotFiveOne and over on the News page of Linux Pro Magazine’s site. If you want more specific information, email me and I’ll see what I can find out for you!
