First Linux Plumbers Conference Nearly Sold Out

The first ever Linux Plumbers Conference is scheduled for September 17-19, 2008 and will be held at Portland State University in Portland, Oregon.  Catchy name for a conference, though it does suggest an Interesting visual (perhaps a penguin stuck in a U-joint).

Don’t you wish all the various folks working on kernel development could get together in one place and work for a more cohesive development environment where subsystems mesh in the planning stages? You’re not the only one. According to the LPC site:

“The goal is to solve problems…The Linux Plumbers Conference was created to bring together the key developers involved in Linux plumbing - the “Linux plumbers” - and give them an opportunity to discuss problems face-to-face, both within subsystems and across subsystems.”

The conference, underwritten by the Linux Foundation, will have numerous “microconferences” - “each on a topic that is narrow enough to identify specific problem areas and brainstorm workable solutions” featuring heavy hitters in Linux land - including Linus Torvalds himself - from companies such as Novell/openSUSE, Red Hat, Intel, and IBM. I’m personally looking forward to the “Filesystem Statistics” presentation by Selena Deckelmann and Gabrielle Roth.

Looks like it’s worth the trip. (I’ll be there as well, so drop me a line if you’re going to attend - if you don’t live in Portland, I’d be happy to share some Bridgetown tips.) Only two weeks remain before the conference, so register now!
