What Women Are Writing In Science: Irene Klotz & Jennifer Ouellette

Ah, a space diary!

I find the Discovery.com site to be somewhat hit-and-miss (hey, Space Week is *way* cooler than Shark Week, but the sharks get all the hype), but today I found this article by Irene Klotz on her "Free Space" blog about the incipient NASA "brain drain". In a few years, when NASA’s space shuttle program shuts down, some 3000+ engineers are going to find themselves out of work. (And you thought that only happened to the logging industry. How soon we forget. Remember the end of the tech boom in 2000-2001?) Klotz suggests that they look into related fields that have gone without for years - like science teaching.

Klotz’s blog seems to be quite consistent - there’s plenty of geekery to read, a dash of current events, and a touch of opinion sprinkled throughout.  As a writer, Klotz specializes in aerospace (keen!), and has written about over ninety shuttle missions (I can’t track down where yet, but I’m working on it!), and published with BBC News and The Mirror.

The "Free Space" page led me to check out the other Discovery Channel blogs, including Jennifer Ouellette’s "Twisted Physics".
