Nina Shen Rastogi on NASA’s Rockets & Pixel’s “Eve”

I’m not a regular Slate reader, but when I see a headline like "How Do You Blow Up A Rocket?", I must take a peek!

Nina Shen Rastogi writes weekly for Slate’s "The Explainer". This isn’t really a science column, though it occasionally addresses scientific questions. Yesterday, however, Shen Rastogi explained how NASA terminates its rockets mid-flight when something goes wrong.

This article references the termination of a rocket soon after launch last week from the Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia.  Check out this page which features video that  shows the termination. (This is unconfirmed, so I’ve got an out if it turns out to be hoax footage.)

In other geeky topics, Shen Rastogi recently wrote a piece in Slate’s XX Factor - a blog from Slate women on a range of topics - about the robot character Eve in Pixar’s Wall-E.

Check out Nina Shen Rastogi’s posts, then visit her site where she gives a little bit of history about herself and lists her many literary contributions.
