Women In Games 2008 Conference

Not everyone will be able to make it, but if you’re already in the UK, or if this is something you’re willing to travel for, mark your calendars!

The 2008 Women In Games Conference isn’t until the second week of September at Warwick Castle, but the "call for papers" deadline is June 23rd, so get cracking. Here’s what the submission committee is looking for:

  • Dressing up programming - is this the way to go?
  • Perception of Games Industry - what is it like to work in games?
  • Technology in schools - why do girls get turned off?
  • Development and Play - do women do it differently?
  • Education for Games, Games for Education
  • Seriously applying games for fun and profit

The keynote speakers scheduled for this fall include Karen Brennan (Scratch, MIT), Sara de Freitas (Serious Games), Eileen Brown (Microsoft), Karen Clark (Bioware), and Paulina Bozek (Sony).

If I had the cash, I’d go just to see Karen Clark from Bioware (and also formerly of Linden Labs), because whatever they do seems to be golden right now.

These women are serious about games, and about mentoring women in the field, so check out their work, as well as the Women in Games blog. For women who are interested in game design as a career, these sites will be extremely informative.
