Best Of The Best: New Machinima “Clear Skies”

I’ve got a new favorite machinima that beats out Red Vs. Blue for the moment.

Ian Chisholm (aka “John Rourke”) says he spent two years making the first episode of “Clear Skies”, and all I can say about that is I hope he doesn’t take as long making the next episode. This is frickin’ *awesome*. Using graphics from Eve and Half Life 2, as well as some of the in-game music from Eve Online, Chisholm has created something new and different that is entertaining, funny, and a great blend of both engines.

Download the trailer (26MB) from Eve-Files, and if you like it, kick off the 450MB download of the whole 39 minute episode. Fans of the game will probably *love* this, and if you haven’t signed up to play Eve Online yet (despite my 2 million ISK bribe), you can see some gameplay in action. Note that all the graphics outside the ship are from Eve Online, and most of the inside graphics, including the characters, are from Half Life 2. There are some nice touches for the inside graphics, though, like the inclusion of the Eve universe map, chat and ship fitting screens. It’s like playing the game without having to actually *do* anything. And all the dialog about constantly needing ship repairs and blowing ISKies as soon they’ve gotten paid is so true to game, I had to pause the vid because I was laughing so hard.

Chisholm says he’s already working on Episode 2, as well as a website dedicated to Clear Skies. Hope that website shows up soon, and even if there’s never another episode, this is still one of the best machinima I’ve ever seen. Kudos.

For folks who’ve got Eve accounts, be sure to kick Chisholm some forum love on this thread.
