Women Technicians at WomenTechWorld
Many of us work in what are painfully termed “male-dominated professions”. Engineers, technicians, sysadmins, scientists and researchers — I could go on, but you know who you are. Since this site launched, I’ve had several folks mention that they’d like to connect with other women in their fields. Eventually, .51 will host forums that will simplify those connections, but in the meantime, I’ll continue to search for as many ways for women to connect as possible.
WomenTechWorld.org is host to the Women’s Technician Club, an “online home for women technicians to connect with each other” and they’ve got a mailing list, a career center, and e-mentoring. The site is affiliated with the Institute for Women in Trades, Technology & Science, and provides information about women working in everything from Aviation to Welding. The biographies, for example, tell how each woman got started in her field, what education she has for her chosen profession, the barriers she faced, her advice for other women, her typical work environment, and the career ladder for her profession.
The Women’s Technicians Club is constantly looking for more biographies, so if you’re currently working in one of their listed professions and want to share your story, get in touch with them!
