“Serenity” flies again, and again, and again…

You can’t stop the signal, or the Big Damn Movie.

Here’s the deal: this summer, Firefly and Serenity fans will host screenings of "Serenity" all across North America and around the globe (well, okay, Australia anyway) to raise money for Equality Now .

From the Equality Now site:

"Equality Now was founded in 1992 to work for the protection and promotion of the human rights of women around the world. Working with national human rights organizations and individual activists, Equality Now documents violence and discrimination against women and mobilizes international action to support their efforts to stop these human rights abuses."

Joss Whedon has been an outspoken supporter of this organization, and received a special recognition award from them nearly two years ago. Every once in awhile, I head over to YouTube and check out Joss Whedon’s acceptance speech for that award. (I’m still a bit in mourning over the fact that Joss isn’t doing Wonder Woman.) Joss is a geek’s geek: nerdy and cool at the same time, yet one cannot ignore the role that Joss says strong women have played in his life, and the fact that he’s man enough to say it proudly.

According to the "Can’t Stop The Serenity" website, these screenings have raised over $160,000US for Equality Now since they started in 2006. Check their site for more information about a screening near you.
