Music: Erykah Badu and “New Amerykah”

It isn’t *all* electronica here at the Ubergeeke’s Lair. I have been known to listen to other types of music as well. Honest!

I must tip my non-existent hat to Wired for reminding me of Erykah Badu’s latest, “New Amerykah Part One (4th World War)”, and big thanks to M.A.D. for hooking me up in the first place. (Wired has a review in the upcoming June issue.)

Badu begins this journey at the intersection of Gil Scott Heron and Curtis Mayfield, and meanders through musical jams and smacks against the head in case you’re not paying attention to the world around you. If you’re a fan of the fluid jam that was “Baduizm” (which was released *ten years ago*! WTF?), you’ve got a bit of a wait before that kind of smoothness shows up, but it’s here, along with the kind of rhythms that will have your head bouncing in no time.

This is Good Stuff from start to finish, and plays like the soundtrack to a hot summer Saturday afternoon in Brooklyn. Have a cool drink nearby.

Badu is touring at the moment, so check this site to get dates for the Vortex Tour.
